"As storyteller, explorer and artist I, Brock Badger, have amassed a great number of objects, all of which tell of exciting journeys had, places visited and living things discovered along my way."
My degree show is a story written with objects. Adopting the persona of a Badger named Brock, I chose to create his study, a room filled with a selection of belongings from his own personal collection. It is a pairing of set design and illustration, where the viewer is encouraged to interact with the objects and learn from them as well as interpret the stories these objects tell for themselves.
This is a show curated by me, which I hope excites and reignites in those looking a curiosity for the natural world and our surroundings. I hope each and every viewer walks away having learnt something new and with a desire to explore the outdoors and the unexpected surprises which await them when they simply step outside and look around; the nibbled pinecones of squirrel, the beautifully intricate birds nests made from horse hair and broken branches.

Alongside these found objects, I have made a number of artefacts which relate to or are inspired by the places visited, stories heard and observations made. By doing so, I highlight a handful of the lesser known and fascinating spots worth exploring within Aberdeenshire as a means of prompting the viewer to step outside and explore; a much needed break away from the busy, constantly moving, digital livelihood we live in today. Although fun when one first looks, behind a number of the objects are stories of endangered and suffering species, of problems we all need to take responsibility for and help. I aim to highlight these issues, raise awareness and provide ways in which the viewer can do their part to help.
To accompany the objects on display I created ' A Guide to Brock Badgers Study', a small portfolio book containing images of the objects alongside their stories and a fold out zine of the same layout for viewers to help themselves to while at my Degree Show.
